In June 2025, Dr. Fabio Tollon and Dr. Shannon Vallor published the first in a two-part study of the Responsible AI Ecosystem, funded by UKRI’s Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) programme.¹ The report provides a chronological and conceptual map of the responsible AI ecosystem. They chart the role of various actors and communities in this ecosystem’s emergence, especially the vital contributions from the arts and humanities, and the historical development and contestation of different meanings of ‘responsibility’ in the context of AI.
The event will begin with a presentation by Tollon about the BRAID report, followed by a conversation between with the founder of RAIN and Kairoi –Ismael Kherroubi Garcia–, moderated by co-lead of RAIN and founder of We and AI – Tania Duarte.
RAIN informs the responsible development, deployment, adoption and governance of AI technologies and research. We do so by promoting an innovation ecosystem that welcomes diverse voices, reduces inequalities, embraces critical thinking, collaborates across disciplines, and enables the wellbeing of people, places and planet.
BRAID is a UK-wide programme dedicated to integrating Arts and Humanities research more fully into the Responsible AI ecosystem, as well as bridging the divides between academic, industry, policy and regulatory work on responsible AI.
